My Self-Isolation & Work From Home (WFH) Experience during the COVID-19 Outbreak

So it is going on one week of working from home, and I just wanted to share my experience. I am surviving. My roommate Britani and I are doing fine. We are taking care of our dog, Stella. I myself have been getting my groceries from ImperfectFoods.com. It's a website that delivers vegetables, fruits, and grocery items to your doorstep. I also got a bunch of snacks off of Walmart.com last week. So, I'm pretty stocked up myself.

As far as exercise, I have not been doing that much. Granted, you know, I didn't do too much every single day, but I have not been up to any sort of routine besides walking Stella. So, just a few days ago, I started running,. And, the first run kicked my butt. But,  you know, it's just something I'm going to work with and see what works best for me. I used to go to my hot yoga studio, Sweatstar, a couple of times a week. And I miss it a lot. So, maybe I'll incorporate, some YouTube videos, like Yoga With Adriene. And when I'm actually…

Feeling ‘Off’? Try This 15 Minute Meditation

People are busy. From work to family to relationships, taking care of yourself is often pushed to the back burner. This might be fine for a little bit, but after a while, anxiety, body aches, and a general “off” feeling will probably catch up to you.
That’s why it’s important to check in with the body and mind. Do your shoulders hurt? Maybe you slept on them wrong, but maybe it’s because tensions in your life are manifesting in your body. Take a second to relax your shoulders away from your ears. Do you feel any different?
If you’re feeling off, or just want to regroup, I recommend this quick 14-minute meditation by Yoga With Adriene. She is one of the most popular yogis on YouTube, and with good reason. She is an excellent teacher and relatable to the everyday person.
And yes, the title is Meditation for Anxiety, but it is for anyone and everyone looking to take care of themselves.

I Went To Church On Sunday (sort of!)

It’s been years since I’ve stepped foot in a church, but last Sunday, I went to church.

Alright, well, it wasn’t actually a church, but The Forum in Los Angeles. And it wasn’t your typical Catholic Service, but Kanye West’s Sunday Service to celebrate the new "Jesus Is King" album. And if you know me, you know Ye is one of my all time favorite artists.

The area surrounding the stage was made up of tall grasses and flowers, giving it a natural feel. Outdoorsy sounds like twittering birds played over the speakers as people filed into the venue and found their seats. Many were wearing Kanye merch, some were in Golf apparel, but a few were all gussied up just like for church.

The show started with a crowd of white-clothed performers, led by Kanye and North West, taking to the stage. They began with “Closed On Sunday” from his new album, which was fitting for the event because it references the same Sunday Service we were attending. For some background, Kanye has been hosting a …

Find The Time

Hello everyone,
Happy Tuesday! I just wanted to share a quick note. At the beginning of the week, all four editors at work will meet for an update of our duties. We started rotating who "runs" the meeting, and this week it was my job. Usually, this just means beginning with your own list of "To Do's" and passing the ball off to the next editor.
I, however, have found a way to incorporate some yoga and meditation. Last time, I began with a guided reflection. "Picture sitting on the beach with your toes in the sand and the sun warming your skin. You can hear the waves softly crashing the shore, and the occasional squawk of a seagull. You can smell the salt of the ocean and a hint of the sunscreen on your nose. And you are relaxed."
This week, however, I told everyone I had a surprise for them when we got through our meeting, which was a quick morning stretching session from our seats. I started with hand stretches, including wrist rotations and the m…

A Quick Hello

Hello everyone,

While this blog is dedicated to yoga and finding inner peace, I want to be clear that that isn't what my entire life is all about. I mean, I wish my days were filled with 24 hours of meditation, stretching and mindfulness, but let's be real. We have jobs to do, friends to see and family to love. So this post is a reminder that not everybody is who they present themselves to be online. Most of my week is spent at a desk working as the Associate Editor for an auto racing trade show and publication (shoutout to PRI)! I also spend a lot of time relaxing at home, preferably with my 11-year-old terrier mix Lady Stella at my feet. I also spend time chatting, both on the phone and over text, with my lovely mother dearest, who is back in South Florida. I certainly miss her dearly as I've been in Southern California for the past three years. Mom pushes me to better myself, both professionally and personally, and she is the reason I am writing this post today. Yesterd…

Why Meditation Matters (Plus A Bonus Meditation)

Meditation is a powerful tool in life. When you stop the mind's mundane thoughts (about work, relationships or anything other than bettering yourself), you are able to approach and appreciate life in a new way. If you've ever meditated, you probably know what I mean!
Check out this short meditation, below. We did this meditation about once per week during yoga teacher training, so thank you to Robbin and Sweatstar Yoga!
